Reading: The students have learned to identify point of view as first or third person. They can decide who is narrating the story based on the pronouns the author uses. This week we are tracking how a character changes during a story based on what information is shared by their point of view.
Next week, we will be focusing on distinguishing between figurative and literal language. The students will study the difference between a simile and metaphor.
Writing
The students will complete their first persuasive speech this week. We will continue the persuasive genre this entire quarter. Next week we will be shifting to writing a petition. The students will use the persuasive writing skills they have learned and apply it to petition writing.
Math: We are continuing to take timed multiplication tests every Friday. Remember to study at home with your student! Unit 7 is based on applying multiplication skills. The students have solved problems with parentheses and found basic multiplication facts in harder problems.
Social Studies: This week we celebrated President’s Day by learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We are finishing the week learning about U.S. Symbols. Next week the students will learn about local and state government.
