The last day of August:)


Hello Parents,

Thank you again to everyone who attended curriculum night! This week we introduced and reviewed many skills in math. In reading we focused on the difference between fiction and non-fiction. We continued to come up with ideas for our writings. The students took a tour of Prairie Branch and wrote a fiction story based on things which take place in our school every day. We have continued working with partners and building relationships within our classroom.  In science we practiced learning the steps of the scientific method. We also working our using our 5 senses to make observations.

Congratulations to my first 4 students who completed all 18 of their positive behavior punches. My first friends to collect their prize!

Our target skills for math this week:
Create a tally charts
Analyze data to create a bar graph
Find maximum and minimum
Equivalent Names
Determine the likelihood of events
Finding the difference between two numbers
In writing the students compiled lists of things they would like to eventually write about.

Our First Week


We had a wonderful full week of school! Please explore the photos of us working this week. I look forward to seeing you on Curriculum Night on Tuesday.

Our week in pictures
We have practiced working with partners.

We created artwork to match our ocean theme by recycling old cds and creating fish.

Our class voted on our favorite writing hearts. The students filled their hearts with things they loved, favorite memories and places they have visited. We had a tie so they week we have two winners, Olivia and Lauren!

This week we also started our everyday math routine. The following are the goals we completed this week:
I  can complete number sequences.
I  can count correctly by 1s and 10s.
I can correctly solve a number grid problem.
I can make your own correct number grid.

During Reader's Workshop this week the students practiced the following skills:
Picking a just right book
Reading with a partner
Each students read with me
Our first meeting with our first grade reading buddies

We had a productive and fun first FULL week of school!

Welcome Parents and Students!


We are closing in on our first week of school. We have greatly enjoyed getting to know one another and creating our classroom expectations. Today I recorded the students stating the classroom expectations.
Next week we starting working more with our core subjects (reading, writing, math, science and social studies).

Three 30 minutes sessions at 6:00, 6:30, and 7:00
